Thank you for visiting my page. I truly appreciate it. Elgin and I decided in October to continue our support of MMRF by competing in the IRONMAN 70.3 in Lake Placid . We are not only racing together as a team, but it will be our first event as a married couple. Yes, Elgin and I will be getting married in September and honeymoon in Lake Placid. MMRF has become an integral part of our lives. It's an organization that has become very dear to us , and together on behalf of MMRF, Elgin and I intend to make a difference. Of course the words that thousands of triathletes dream of hearing as they cross the finish line are certainly appealing. “You are an Ironman", still our motivation for competing are far greater. . The day before I ran the Chicago marathon in October of 2016, Elgin and I had the great honor of attending a MMRF reception where we met fellow runners , patients with Multiple Myeloma, and their families. It wasn't until that very day that we could actually see the lives that have been touched by this organization and by the generous contributions of our donors. It was truly life altering to be in a room where you see the results of charity, hope and love, where you see the fight of the human spirit and the will to continue, where you see how the work of many manifests itself into one goal and for that one goal , we all continue on that same path together . One day we will live a life where cancer does not exist. When I first signed up through MMRF to compete in a charity event, Elgin and I had no idea what I was getting into. Now that we do, we can't imagine living our lives without doing our part to make cancer a thing of the past. Please join us in our fight for a cure.
Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made. In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved 10 new treatments in just 12 years, a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. The MMRF is funding additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.
It is our hope that you will support us in raising money and awareness for this amazing foundation. On paper ,we have each agreed to reach $2500.00 in donations, but we want to do better than that figure. We cant possibly put a pricetag on hope nor a value on the word "remission "so we won't stop raising money and awareness until we have completely crushed Cancer . Please help us cross that finish line and together as a team, let's share in the victory as we all race for a cure.
