Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, last year I lost my dear friend, Kate Cramer White to cancer. This year I will be running a marathon and raising money for cancer to honor her amazing spirit! Kate would have probably signed up to do this race with me. In addition to being a fitness instructor and personal trainer for many years, she was a the most positive person I knew and always up for a challenge! Not a day goes by when I do not think of my dear friend, her amazing courage and beautiful spirit. Life does not always go as we plan and some of the best are taken way to early!
I will be participating in the 2019 Chicago Marathon on October 13, 2019 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. I have signed up, with 2 other women from the Wood River Valley. Multiple Myeloma is a form of blood cancer that my friend’s mother is fighting. So, I will finally be putting my running to some good and raising money for cancer research!
But, in order to be successful, I need your help – please consider helping today in any way you can!
My life has been changed through my experience watching and sharing Kate’s battle and death from ovarian cancer. Life is simply a gift to be cherished and not wasted. Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer. This is the cancer that, my cousin’s wife, Susan Thompson, fought and died from several years ago. As mentioned, my friend Courtney’s mother is battling this cancer right now – this is why we are running for this Charity.
Over 30,000 people are diagnosed yearly with multiple myeloma and an estimated 12,000 are predicted to die each year from the disease. I'm proud to be part of the ACTION that is helping fund and fuel important research: Thanks to the important work of the MMRF and our partners, the FDA has approved ELEVEN new treatments in the time that it usually takes for ONE new drug to come to market. There are more treatment options in the pipeline. This is so important because myeloma is a cunning disease which morphs through treatment, meaning patients often need new treatment options when they relapse.
The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. Nearly 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for 16 years.
The Goal: Raise $1,250 for the MMRF and I need your help to get there! I have some work to do. My Goal is to run 26.2 miles!
Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up! Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support, Kim
