Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for helping me to do what I can to fight Multiple Myeloma - an incurable blood cancer that is diagnosed in 30,000 new patients a year.
My wife, Jeanie, was diagnosed in June 2010 and we were fortunate to be introduced to the MMRF later that year at their annual 5K in Boston. They have given us hope and shown us what the strength of a focused and targeted team can do!
This year, I will be participating in the Road to Victories Vermont to Quebec Ride in September 2019 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. Our group of cyclists will ride through scenic small-town Vermont before taking on the challenging ride across the Canadian border to finish in Quebec.
The work ahead of me? Cycle for 5 days over varied and challenging terrain and raise at least $7,500 to support the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge for me, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.
The MMRF has helped with incredible advancements in the treatment of Multiple Myeloma, but with you help, they can do more. With your donation, they can:
- Help to introduce more treatment options - the MMRF has helped introduce 11 new treatments to help patients live 3x longer than they could have 10 years ago
- Help to improve available options - improve effectiveness and reduce toxicity
- Help patients and their doctors choose the best course of treatment - every MM patient is unique and they each have a different path that will bring them success in fighting this awful disease
Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, though much progress has been made, myeloma still has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. I'm proud to be part of the ACTION that is helping fund and fuel important research: Thanks to the important work of the MMRF and our partners, the FDA has approved ELEVEN new treatments in the time that it usually takes for ONE new drug to come to market. And there are 2-3 more treatment options right around the corner. This is so important because there are 12 different types of multiple myeloma, and because myeloma is a cunning disease which morphs through treatment, meaning patients often need new treatment options when they relapse. There have been a couple times where Jeanie has depended on these new treatments and more options are needed.
The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past twelve years in a row. Please support my participation in the Road To Victories Ride benefiting the MMRF. I have made a commitment to raise at least $5,000 and I will need your help to get there. More importantly, patients need these funds to extend their lives while we get closer and closer to a cure. Your tax deductible donation goes directly to help fast track lifesaving treatments for myeloma patients. Please donate whatever you can to support this great effort! It all adds up!
