Dear Friends and Family,
For the 2nd year in a row, I will be participating in the MMRF’s Road to Victories as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. Last year was Vermont to Quebec and starting on September 20th, 2020, I will be riding in Oregon’s Waterfalls and Wine Country, Columbia River Gorge! A group of 20 cyclists will cycle over 250 miles from Portland, OR to the Willamette Valley.
Many of you know why I am riding. For those that do not, it is to honor the memory and the friendship of Greg Chess, and to honor the fight Greg put up in his battle against multiple myeloma. Greg was a loving, loyal, gracious, kind, and incredible husband; father; son; uncle; and friend. He is missed every single day and his passing has left an empty space in the lives of all of us. We all learn to continue to live without him by our side, but his memory is a constant with us. I miss my friend, and this ride is for you Greg, every single person who is still so courageously fighting the disease, and in memory of those who lost their battle against this awful cancer.
Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, though much progress has been made, myeloma still has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. I'm proud to be part of the ACTION that is helping fund and fuel important research: Thanks to the important work of the MMRF and our partners, the FDA has approved ELEVEN new treatments in the time that it usually takes for ONE new drug to come to market. And there are 2-3 more treatment options right around the corner.
This is so important because there are 12 different types of multiple myeloma, and because myeloma is a cunning disease which morphs through treatment, meaning patients often need new treatment options when they relapse.
The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past twelve years in a row. Please support my participation in the Road To Victories Ride benefiting the MMRF.
I have made a commitment to raise at least $5,000, and I am respectively asking for you to consider making any donation you feel comfortable with to help support this cause. I know many of us have so many competing obligations and everyone is in a different financial situation. However, please remember, EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR counts. and I will need your help to get there. More importantly, patients need these funds to extend their lives while we get closer and closer to a cure. Your tax deductible donation goes directly to help fast track lifesaving treatments for myeloma patients. Please donate whatever you can to support this great effort! It all adds up!
