Join the MMRF as we continue to expand our program to new heights with
the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma (MM4MM) Program!

On October 1 - 12, 2020, this team of MMRF hikers who have been specially selected to form the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma Salkantay Trek team will embark on the trip of a lifetime to Machu Picchu. This team will trek for 40 miles through untouched valleys and over challenging mountain passes to the doorstep of the iconic Machu Picchu.

This challenging and awe-inspiring six-day trek (eleven days including travel) takes even novice hikers on a journey through the Inca Empire's heartland. Expert local guides take the team to Machu Picchu via a less trodden ancient path, exploring the majestic mountains and hidden valleys of Salkantay. Hikers trek through pristine countryside over a 15,000-foot pass, and down undisturbed valleys to the foot of Machu Picchu. Set amid the deeply-incised Vilcambamba range, this high-altitude camping-based route is a premier entry into the uncrowded Peru of old, with breathtaking views of the Inca empire‚Äôs heartland. After a total 40 miles of trekking, our team arrives through the classic Sun Gate and into Machu Picchu itself.

We are proud to partner with the experts at Embark Exploration Co, a US-based company and leader in world travel who will guide us on this expedition as they have done for our Mt. Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp treks. Note that no special equipment, special training, or any technical climbing is required.

This team will be made up of multiple myeloma patients, caregivers, doctors, clinicians, nurses, and others connected to multiple myeloma. This is a powerful and life-changing experience as the team overcomes challenges, pushes beyond perceived limits, and honors loved ones and friends living with multiple myeloma. This MM4MM team is LIVING PROOF that the work being done by the MMRF and our research partners is helping myeloma patients live longer and more active lives.

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the MMRF is able to underwrite most of the trekking costs of the trip. Team members agree to raise a minimum of $10,000 per person. Please see "Event Info" page to find out more about what is included.

Prospective team members for the Salkantay Trek team must apply for and be selected to join the team. Teams are made up of individuals who have a direct connection to multiple myeloma: Patients, caregivers, family members of patients, and those who work directly with myeloma patients. Team members are encouraged to maximize fundraising efforts. Applications will be selected on a rolling basis until teams reach capacity.
