Join Us! The MMRF is removing obstacles faster and extending lives. But we need your help.
In August of last year, we hiked 38.6 kilometers over three days in Iceland to raise money for the MMRF. John Klatt, one of two multiple myeloma patients on our team, hiked alongside us on our trek. An inspiration to each of us, John passed away on November 13th, 2019.
In John's memory, we will be participating in The Journey Endurance Run/Relay to benefit the MMRF on October 3, 2020. We have committed to raising awareness and funds to accelerate finding a cure for multiple myeloma, which is the second most common blood cancer and is incurable.
We spent our days in Iceland trekking past waterfalls, over glaciers, and near volcanoes. One landmark along our hike was Eyjafjallajökull, a volcano completely covered by a glacier ice cap. Eyjafjallajökull (pronounced “AY-ya-fee-YET-lah-yo-cool-tuh”) means “island mountain glacier.” As a team, we decided to our team name would be “John’s Eyjafjallajökull,” which we felt was a great way to look back on our time with John on the trail.
We became a family on the trail, and we look forward to celebrating John’s life and legacy as a team when we reunite at The Journey in October. We are committed to each raising $500 for the MMRF. That’s where you come in!
Your generosity truly makes a difference, as funds raised at this event in the past have helped to:
- Create the largest genomic data set in any cancer
- Advance the MMRF Precision Medicine Model Nearly tripled patient survival
- Deliver ELEVEN new treatments in a decade
- Launch over 70 new clinical trials Now is the time for us to continue these life-changing initiatives while developing new breakthroughs in myeloma research!
The mission of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is to find a cure for multiple myeloma by relentlessly pursuing innovation that accelerates the development of next-generation treatments to extend the lives of patients. Founded in 1998 by Kathy Giusti, a multiple myeloma patient, and her twin sister Karen Andrews as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, the MMRF is a world-recognized leader in cancer research.
Together with its partners, the MMRF has created the only end-to-end solution in precision medicine and the single largest genomic dataset in all cancers. The MMRF continues to disrupt the industry today, as a pioneer and leader at the helm of new research efforts. Since its inception, the organization has raised over $500 million and directs nearly 90% of the total funds to research and related programs. To learn more, visit themmrf.org.
Please support our participation in the Journey Endurance Run/Relay. Your donation will have a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of patients and their families! The MMRF is bringing treatments to trial 60 percent faster than the industry standard and tripling life expectancy. The MMRF needs your support. History is being made, so we invite you to join us. Thank You!
