Dear Family and Friends,
On July 26th, 2020 I will be participating again in IRONMAN Lake Placid. This will be my 6th race on the ‘Team for Cures’ to raise funds and awareness for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. This event is very meaningful since my wife, Kathy, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2014. As we arrived in Lake Placid for the Ironman that year, we discovered that the official charity partner for Ironman Lake Placid was the MMRF. I could now race with a purpose and “make it count”!
The work ahead of me? Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles; and most importantly raise funds and awareness for multiple myeloma. Training for this 140.6 mile event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by Kathy and other patients with multiple myeloma.
Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made. Thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world’s leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved 12 new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that’s unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and families like ours. As I write this note, Kathy’s numbers have greatly improved as a result of these new drug treatments.
The Goal: Raise $10,000 for the MMRF!
Thank you to all of my family and friends for your support in my last 4 races on the “Team for Cures’. But, I need your help again to meet my commitment to raise funds for one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming.
Please contribute whatever you can, even if it is a fund raising idea. It all adds up! You can get a signed copy of my new book and workbook: For contributions of $140.60 (ironman race distance) or more, you will receive a signed copy of my book “ From Rust to Trust” as well as the new workbook. For contributions of $1000.00 or more, you will receive 10 book and workbooks.
Thank you for taking this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization. Thank you for "making it count".
