Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma (MM4MM) is an award winning collaboration between the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and CURE Magazine to raise funds and awareness for myeloma research.

Teams of 16-20 are carefully selected to represent a microcosm of the myeloma community: patients, caregivers, family members and others with a direct connection to multiple myeloma.

Since 2016, Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma teams have climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, hiked the Grand Canyon, trekked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, summited Mount Fuji, explored the landscape of Iceland, reached Everest Base Camp, and traversed the peaks of Patagonia. Our team members have raised over $2.7 million, 100% of which goes directly to myeloma research. These amazing journeys were captured via blogs, social media posts, and video.

Now in its fourth year, the program will expand to exciting new challenges in 2020. Six trek options are available of varying difficult and length to provide a diverse range of options for all interested participants. Patients, caregivers, myeloma loved ones, and others impacted directly by multiple myeloma will take on the challenges described below. They will raise funds for multiple myeloma research and demonstrate that the advancements being made in recent years, funded and spearheaded by the MMRF, are helping patients live longer with a higher quality of life than ever before.

Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Trek | May 2020 |  LEARN MORE & APPLY NOW
This legendary hike takes us from the North Rim to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Our adventure begins with countless switchbacks as we head down 5,500 feet into the Grand Canyon, hiking into nearly two billion years of the Earth’s geological past. As we trek, we see waterfalls and take in the awe-inspiring views, arriving at the renowned Phantom Ranch, our home for two nights. We spend Day 2 along the mighty Colorado River, resting our legs and preparing for our climb out the following day. We start Day 3 early, to get a cool start and give ourselves plenty of time to ascend the 10 miles and 2,000 feet to the Southern Rim.
Kenai Peninsula Alaskan Trek | June 22 - 27, 2020 |  LEARN MORE & APPLY NOW
This Alaskan trek on the Kenai Peninsula begins in Homer, Alaska, known as “The End of the Road”. We will hike into wilderness that feels like the ends of the Earth, through temperate rain forests, alongside glaciers that plunge down mountains and get a glimpse of local wildlife while taking on challenging terrain where you will earn your bragging rights. This 6-day hike will inspire the team and provide a challenge and experience that will last a lifetime.

Mount Washington Trek | July 10 – 13, 2020 |  LEARN MORE & APPLY NOW
Mount Washington is the highest peak in the northeastern United States and the most prominent mountain east of the Mississippi at 6,288 feet above sea level. Known for its extreme weather and popularity in the hiking world, this is a very exclusive opportunity to climb as a team with the MMRF. We will sleep in Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) huts, including the renowned “Lake of the Clouds”. Weather permitting, we’ll “bag” 3 of the “Presidents”: Mt. Clay, Mt. Monroe, and Mt. Washington. This challenging 3-day hike will leave you with serious bragging rights!

Greenland Arctic Trek | August 2020 |  LEARN MORE & APPLY NOW
We arrive at Nasarsuaq, the Gateway to Southern Greenland, just 4 miles from the Greenland Ice Sheet. Our arctic adventure will take us through majestic, remote countryside where we will see blue-tinged icebergs, glaciers and fjords. We will trek along ancient sheep trails through tundra and glacier valleys to a world that maintains the feel of the arctic pioneers, staying in accommodations that range from hotels to hostels to farm stays.

Mount Kilimanjaro | September 11 – 23, 2020 |  LEARN MORE & APPLY NOW
Our MM4MM team will embark on an 8-day trek to take on the highest free-standing mountain in the world (19,341 above sea level). You
will experience 5 different ecosystems as you ascend slowly, giving your body the time it needs to acclimate to the increasing altitude. Embark Exploration’s expert guides help us navigate the mountain, setting up sleeping camp each day, and preparing our meals, served in a oversized “mess tent”. On Day 6, we take an evening nap, rising at midnight to hike to the famed Uruhu Peak via moonlight in order to witness the Tanzanian sunrise and celebrate our incredible victory together at the roof of Africa.

Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu | October 1 – 12, 2020 |  LEARN MORE & APPLY NOW
Our expert local guides take us to Machu Picchu via a less trodden ancient path, showing us the majestic mountains and hidden valleys of
Salkantay. We trek through pristine countryside over a 15,000-foot pass, and down undisturbed valleys to the foot of Machu Picchu. Set amid the deeply-incised Vilcambamba range, this high-altitude camping-based route is a premier entry into the uncrowded Peru of old, with breathtaking views of the Inca empire’s heartland. After a total of 40 miles of trekking, you arrive, weary and elated, through the classic Sun Gate and into Machu Picchu itself.
