Mandy, Emily, Caroline and Jenny (The Freer and Harper Family)
As most of you know, 2020 has started off with some challenges. In mid-December of 2019 we found out that Matt had officially relapsed and would once again, need to undergo treatment. After a hopeful meeting with his doctor, we decided that Matt will begin a clinical trial on January 28th. This new four drug regimen has shown fantastic results and just so happens to be funded by the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation!
In an effort to honor Matt, the road ahead, and the amazing work done by the MMRF; Mandy, Caroline, Emily, and Jenny will run 26.2 miles and raise at least $6,500 for this life-changing organization. While the training leading up to this race will certainly be challenging, it pales in comparison to the the formidable challenges Matt has already surmounted in his fight against MM. After 40+ cycles of chemotherapy and a Bone Marrow Transplant, he is again gearing up for more time spent in chemotherapy infusions as he embarks on this clinical trial. Your show of support is a reminder that all of us are still on his team. That No One Fights Alone.
Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer. Over 30,000 people are diagnosed yearly with multiple myeloma and an estimated 12,000 are predicted to die each year from the disease. Running with the Team for Cures means helping fund and fuel important research that means real impact on real lives. Thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the FDA has approved ELEVEN new treatments in the time that it usually takes for ONE new drug to come to market. There are more treatment options in process. This is so important because myeloma is a cunning disease which morphs through treatment, meaning patients often need new treatment options when they relapse.
The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. Nearly 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for 16 years.
The Goal: Raise $6,500 for the MMRF!
Please support our participation in the Chicago Marathon benefiting the MMRF. We have made a commitment to raise at least $6,500, and we need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!
Thank you! Mandy, Caroline, Emily & Jenny
