Hi There,

I'm running the Virgin Money London Marathon on April 28th, 2019 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. I've made a commitment to raise at least $4,000 via the 26.2 mile race, and I need your help....please. The fundraising has begun.

I first learned about multiple myeloma in the late 90s when my father was diagnosed. Not knowing anything about the disease, it was my university roommate who informed me what it was via a book from the campus library. The most she could find was a half page of text written in medical terminology. The prognosis was not good. With the Internet still a thing of the future, and access to resources not as easy to come by, that piece of paper was the only information I had on the disease that changed our lives.

Multiple myeloma is the 2nd most common form of blood cancer and, has one of the lowest 5-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made. Dad was in the process of training for the London marathon (no less) when he found out. He was active and healthy. There was no family history, nothing. You wake up one day and boom your life changes in an instant.

A few reasons why I'm running for MMRF:

* The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) was established in 1998 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by twin sisters Karen Andrews and Kathy Giusti, soon after Kathy's diagnosis with multiple myeloma. Their mission is to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure

* 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming.

* The MMRF is the world's leading private funder of myeloma research. As a result, the FDA has approved 10 new treatments, including 4 in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients.

* For you DAD, and for everyone with cancer, survivors, and all affected by it in some form. It was dad who encouraged me to run, and we would have loved to run a marathon together one day. So this one's for you dad & the incredible work of the MMRF.

* The fact I get to run for such a fabulous charity. Let's work to defeat cancer!!

* Note that all funds raised go directly to cancer research (MMRF). I will be funding my own travel costs, accommodation, training expenses, etc. Running shoe sponsorships and watch sponsorships welcome. :)

Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up. And if you know someone else who might like to make a contribution in memory/honor of someone please share the link now.Thank you for your consideration. Maybe I'll see you on the course.
