Iceland Fire + Ice Trek
THE TEAM IS NOW FULL!
Join the MMRF as we continue to expand our program to new heights with
the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma (MM4MM) Program!
In 2019, the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma will venture back to Iceland. This two and a half days of challenging and spectacular hiking includes an assortment of geologic marvels, including volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, hot springs, gorges, lava beds, waterfalls, and, of course, mountains. Geothermal activity in the form of steam and green and yellow sulfur coming from the rocks we pass coupled with the topography make this mountainous hike otherworldly.
Hikers will be selected to take part in this two and a half day overland trek through and over Iceland's incredible landscape. Expect 7-8 hours of rigorous hiking, with our end of day destination being mountain huts situated in remote, incredible settings. This untouched land offers an other-worldly feel - one moment you will be traversing a lava field only to find yourself sleeping in a mountain hut sandwiched between two glaciers that same night!
Be prepared for 7-8 hours of rigorous hiking daily through all levels of terrain.
We are proud to partner with the experts at Adventure Fundraising, a US-based company who will guide us on this expedition as they have done for our past Iceland and Grand Canyon: Havasu Falls treks. Note that no special equipment, special training, or any technical climbing is required.
This team will be made up of multiple myeloma patients, caregivers, doctors, clinicians, nurses, and others connected to multiple myeloma. This is a powerful and life-changing experience as the team overcomes challenges, pushes beyond perceived limits, and honors loved ones and friends living with multiple myeloma. This MM4MM team is LIVING PROOF that the work being done by the MMRF and our research partners is helping myeloma patients live longer and more active lives.
Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the MMRF is able to underwrite most of the trekking costs of the trip. Team members agree to raise a minimum of $7,500 per person. Please see "Event Info" page to find out more about what is included.
Prospective team members for the Iceland Fire + Ice team must apply for and be selected to join the team. Teams are made up of individuals who have a direct connection to multiple myeloma: Patients, caregivers, family members of patients, and those who work directly with myeloma patients. Team members are encouraged to maximize fundraising efforts. Applications will be selected on a rolling basis until teams reach capacity.
