Greg Carefoot

Dear Friends,

As many of you know my father passed away from Multiple Myeloma ~ 2yrs ago. He was strong willed and battled this disease for 7 yrs with the help of chemo therapy, several different drug trials, clean eating, and exercise. He put up a good fight, kept a good attitude, and did not give up or give in. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a great role model. I have wanted to do something to honor him and I think I have found the perfect way. It took me a while to be mentally ready and then I had a meniscus injury, but I believe now is the time.

I will be participating in IRONMAN Lake Placid on July 28th, 2019 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.

The work ahead of me? Race 140.6 miles (Swim 2.4, Bike 112, Run 26.2) and raise at least $8,000 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by my dad and other patients with multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made.

In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have TRIPLED the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.

The Goal: Raise $8,000 for the MMRF!

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row (the highest rating possible).

Please support my participation in IRONMAN Lake Placid benefiting the MMRF. I have made a commitment to raise at least $8,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support me and this game-changing cancer organization. Remember, no donation is too small!!!!

Thank you!

In memory of my father, Neil Carefoot!!
