Glenn Van Neil

Glenn Van Neil

Almost 25 years ago I lost my father to Multiple Myeloma.

I will be participating in IRONMAN 70.3 Connecticut on June 2, 2019 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.

The work ahead of me? Race 70.3 miles and raise at least $2,500 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.

In 1992, the year my father was diagnosed, Multiple Myeloma was thought to be a relatively rare disease commonly referred to as “bone cancer.” The life expectancy of someone diagnosed was somewhere between 3 and 5 years. My father only made it 3.5 years before it claimed his life. Today, Multiple Myeloma patients have slightly better odds of living past the 5 year mark thanks to research and new treatments and procedures. Mutliple Myeloma is recognized now as the 2nd most commonly diagnosed blood cancer. Multiple Myeloma is still an incurable fatal disease that affects around 30,000 people every year.

I'm proud to be part of the ACTION that is helping fund and fuel important research: Thanks to the important work of the MMRF and our partners, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments in the time that it usually takes for ONE new drug to come to market. There are more treatment options in the pipeline.

This is so important because myeloma is a cunning disease which morphs through treatment, meaning patients often need new treatment options when they relapse.

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. Nearly 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. The MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for 16 years.

The Goal: Raise as much as I can for the MMRF! None of my fundraising funds will go to the Ironman race, its all for the MMRF!

Please support my participation in IRONMAN 70.3 Connecticut benefiting the MMRF. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.

Help me race in memory of my father on June 2, 2019!

William G. Van Neil will be there with me as I race!

Thanks!
Glenn
