As you know, after we lost our Uncle Ray to multiple myeloma, I looked for something to do in his honor. This is how I found the MMRF (the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation). Since we first learned of multiple myeloma from Uncle Ray’s diagnosis, two more of my friends have been diagnosed with the same cancer. They are currently in remission and battling every day.

So, for the 7th time, I will be participating in the Empire State Building Run-Up on May 14, 2019 as part of the MMRF Team for Cures to raise money for this amazing charity.

The work ahead of me? Race up 86 flights of stairs (the equivalent of 1, 576 steps). Since the MMRF was unable to obtain entries for the run-up last year, as space is limited, I wasn’t able to participate in the run-up for them. But this year we are back, and in hopes of making up for last year, I’ve set a goal to raise $20,000. I could only do this with the awesome support you all have provided, year after year.

Your previous donations have done so much already, and I’m hoping to keep the progress going. Your donations have already brought TEN new FDA-approved treatments to the market within the time that it typically takes to bring just ONE new drug to market. It’s truly remarkable and I’m proud that we have all been a part of this together.

And there are more treatment options in the pipeline that MMRF is helping to bring to market. This is so important because multiple myeloma is a cunning cancer that changes throughout its painful course, which means that patients often need new treatment options when they relapse.

Training for this annual event is a big challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges that multiple myeloma patients face every day.

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer. Over 30,000 people are diagnosed each year with multiple myeloma and an estimated 12,000 are predicted to die each year from the disease.

Another reason I continue to support this charity is that the MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. Nearly 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly to funding research and related programming. The MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities and has earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for 16 years.

Please contribute whatever you can. No contribution is too small. It all adds up and I appreciate every single donation!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.

Cheers to you all!
