Dear Friends,

I will be participating in the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2019 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.

Why multiple myeloma? Why me? And why now?

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, though much progress has been made, myeloma still has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. Doctors, medical researchers, and MMRF are all in a race for life.

My race--the Boston Marathon--is intended to honor my dad, Joseph, who died of multiple myeloma. He was only 72 years old...just 8 years older than my age on race day next year.

Now, with the prospect of completing the Boston Marathon, my goal of running the six World Marathon Majors would be attained. Chicago, New York, London, Tokyo, and Berlin are all behind me. My focus is on training for the 26.2 miles in Boston and raising money for the MMRF. It's a big challenge to be sure, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. The organization is a game-changer. I fully support it and hope you can join me in this effort.

I have made a commitment to raise at least $10,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Lastly, a word of thanks for your interest in my marathon adventures over the years, and your personal support along the way. You've cheered me on to the finish line!
