Team Tir(Ed)

Dear Friends,

(Team update: Danielle sprained her ankle while playing soccer; Greg Levandoski is subbing in for her.)

We're the Denver branch of Team Tir(Ed)-- we're supporting our pal Ed Johnson's fight to crush Multiple Myeloma into the ground.

First, a word or two about Ed. He went to Duke. Lives in Minneapolis with his wife Anne and two sons. His son calls him The Great Indoorsman. He introduced many of us to Krispy Kreme Donuts. You can see Ed in the picture behind us in our group photo. It’s from Faye’s and Doug’s wedding, and you can see he’s got some moves on the dance floor. We all happen to know Ed because he has devoted his professional life to fighting for our environment and our future by training activists and running campaigns across the country. He's also canvassed in something like 53 states and US protectorates.

This 10 year (and counting) fight against Multiple Myeloma is not a fight he chose. He, Anne, and the kids are tir(Ed) of cancer. So tired. But he, and we, are stuck with it. So. LET'S DO THIS.

We'll be running the Colfax Half Marathon on May 20, 2018 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. (MMRF is not an official partner of the Colfax, but we're using this MMRF page to raise money.)

The work ahead of us? Run 13.1 miles and raise at least $7,000 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made.

In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.

The Goal: Raise $5,000 for the MMRF! WAIT SCRATCH THAT. $7000. WE'RE RAISING $7000!!!

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.

Please support our participation in the Colfax benefiting the MMRF. We have made a commitment to raise at least $7,000, and we need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.

Thanks!
Team Tir(Ed): Molly, Doug, Yana, Danielle, Faye, Annie, and Lucie, and our newest addition: Greg Levandoski!!!!
