On November 4, I will be running the NYC Marathon as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. With your help, I now (had to raise it due to your generosity!) intend to raise at least $10,000 to fund research into multiple myeloma, which is the second most common form of blood cancer.
This is a very personal challenge for me. And not just because it will be my first marathon. My mom was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 7 years ago and in addition to years of chemotherapy, recently underwent her second stem cell transplant.
While there is no cure for multiple myeloma, great progress is being made. Thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And the MMRF is currently funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients like my mom and families like ours.
90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is ranked in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row. So you can be confident your donation is going to a world class organization.
Please support my efforts to help find a cure for multiple myeloma. Because of your great support, I am already on the hook for a personal match of $5,000. But we can do more. Every dollar is appreciated - it all adds up!
