Dear Friends,

I will be participating in the TCS NYC Marathon on November 4, 2018 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.

The work ahead of me? Race 26.2 miles and raise at least $3,000 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers.

It’s been a little over a year since I lost my mom to cancer. I remember how powerless we felt living half a country away while she struggled with the disease. My modest solution is to use this opportunity to honor my mother's fight and contribute to this incredible cause. I know that this effort will not bring back my mom but maybe we can help others avoid the sadness my family feels.

While there is no cure, great progress is being made. In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.

Please join me in this cause by contributing to fund research to cure this form of cancer. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Email me the names of those whom you love who have lost the fight or are still fighting the battle and I will honor them by writing their names on my running shirt.

If you have future fundraising activities, especially an endurance fundraiser, please count on our support in the same way we are counting on yours.
