Maggie Tracy

Hello friends and family!

It is with great confusion and second guessing that I'd like to inform you that I am participating in the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 4th. "Why are you subjecting yourself to something so unnatural and not fun?" Because I look for any excuse to go to Staten Island on a Sunday morning at 6 a.m.

The reason I am "running" is because of my Uncle Ker, aka "Special K", aka "CharLAY", aka "The Favorite", aka" Hillcrest Lakers 1972's Biggest-Liability-at-Second-Base". My Uncle Kerry was first diagnosed with Multiple-Myeloma in 2012. What is Multiple-Myeloma? I am not the doctor in the family but I do know that it is the second most common type of blood cancer and has caused Kerry to miss out on taking the kids to prom, college, etc., not to mention having to call the pizza guys every weekend and re-explain to them to NOT cut the large cheese pie into 8 slices because of risk of infection from the pizza cutter, resulting in both unneeded judgement and the delivery of what resembles an unfolded Italian taco. It's humiliating, its exhausting, and we're over it!

Kerry's wife, my Aunt Erin, has been an absolute hustler throughout all of this. She took three kids to college, all plane rides away, never missed a doctor's appointment, a fraternity event, sorority event, a play... even if the event wasn't for her own kid. Erin has been there for everything with perfectly curled hair, J-crew flats and a huge smile. Erin also made sure to consistently update everyone on Kerry's road to remission. If you're reading this email right now, there is a very big possibility that Erin hung up your photo or words of encouragement on Kerry's hospital room wall so that he could be reminded of the community that he has had cheering for him

I am proud to share that Uncle Kerry is cancer free today! Thanks to Stem Cell donations from my Dad and Aunt Megan, Kerry finally reached remission just a few weeks ago! He is already back at work, back to drinking Bud Heavys (slowly, its been a while), and has plans to visit Reilly at his first Marquette parents weekend this semester!

I am thrilled to be joining Team for Cures with a goal to raise $3,000 for the Multiple Myeloma Research Fund. Every dollar raised goes directly towards this critical research to fight for an end to this horrible disease and to ensure that families like Kerry, Erin, and their kids, Brogan, Aidan, and Reilly, don't have to suffer through this alone.

Thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.

If you’ve opened this donation page and got this far, thank you! You also probably enjoy cold beer, kicking cancer’s ass, and hanging out with Uncle Kerr. So please join me! (and throw the MMRF $10 bucks!)
