Chris Wetmore

Dear Friends and Family,

My name is Chris Wetmore and I have been accepted to join the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma (MM4MM) team to trek to Everest Base Camp in October of 2018 to raise awareness and funds for myeloma research. Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made by the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF)!

The work ahead of me? Climb 18,519 feet above sea level to the 'front door' of the tallest mountain in the world and raise at least $10,000 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.

I have been an active participant with the MMRF since 2015, and have been a supporter of the organization since 2005 when my dad, Bruce Wetmore, was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The initial diagnosis came with a 3-year average life expectancy, and over the past 13 years, my dad has thrown that 3-year life expectancy out the door thanks in part to the research conducted by the MMRF. Unfortunately, in the fall of 2016, my aunt was also diagnosed with multiple myeloma after battling breast cancer. She currently is receiving treatment from the excellent multiple myeloma doctors championed through the MMRF research efforts. Multiple myeloma has affected my family on several different fronts, so it has been a natural decision to join the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma team to challenge myself and to help find a cure.

On October 26th, 2018, I will begin the 10 day trek to Everest Base Camp, situated at 17,600 feet above sea level. It will be the achievement of a lifetime; the ultimate test of physical and mental toughness. I am privileged to have the opportunity to do this alongside myeloma patients, caregivers, nurses, and others connected to this disease. This makes my quest so much more than just an individual accomplishment, but rather, the opportunity to truly impact the lives of multiple myeloma patients.

The Goal: Raise $10,000 for the MMRF's life-extending cancer research!

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.

Please support my participation in the Everest Base Came/Kalapathhar Trek benefiting the MMRF. I have made a commitment to raise at least $10,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.

Thanks!
Chris
