Dear Friends and Family,

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures has asked me to take part in their major fundraising and awareness campaign called Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma. I will be participating in the the program for 12 months that ends with my team of doctors and researchers in March 2018 by climbing 18,519 feet to the front door of the tallest mountain in the world, Mt Everest.

Why am I doing this somewhat crazy climb of Mt. Everest?

While speaking to a group of blood cancer patients, caregivers and doctors about my Multiple Myeloma experience and training for Mt. Everest, I saw their faces fill with hope and excitement. Cancer tries to steal hope from everyone that it touches, and can leave you feeling that battle can't be won.

My challenges, fears and sacrifices to climb Mt. Everest are dedicated to those with MM and their family and friends. To give hope, that no matter how bad it may seem, they too can climb their mountain and win.

...Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made.

In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients after diagnosis. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.

The Goal: Raise $20,000 for the MMRF's life-extending cancer research!

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.

Please support my participation in the Everest Base Came/Kalapathhar Trek benefiting the MMRF. I have made a commitment to raise at least $20,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.

Dr. Zonder is the best. My father passed of MM (just 3 years ago) and he is on our minds every day. My dad was a force to be reckoned with and a great believer in our island and its schools. Now my mom has been diagnosed with MM and it is round 2 for my family. Have a great time and climb! Keep finding and spreading hope!
