Join the MMRF as we continue to expand our program to new heights... and depths with
the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma (MM4MM) Program!

On March 3-16, 2018, twenty MMRF hikers who have been specially selected to form the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma Everest Base Camp/Kalapathhar Team will embark on the trip of a lifetime. This special team will trek the Himalayan highlands to the doorstep of the world's tallest mountain, Mt. Everest. A short three-hour hike beyond Base Camp provides the MM4MM team members with an ascent of Kalapathhar, where they will be rewarded with one of the region's most accessible views of Mt. Everest.

This challenging and awe-inspiring nine-day trek (twelve days including travel) takes even novice climbers on a strenuous, but friendly, journey through Nepal's magical Khumbu region, allowing for close-up views of dozens of Himalayan Giants without the dangers of a technical summit. Hikers will sleep primarily in Nepalese teahouses, easing into the Sherpa culture, assisted by friendly herds of yaks that carry much of the team's gear. The summit of Kalapathhar, the highest point on the climb, reaches an altitude of 18,519 feet above sea level.

We are proud to partner with the experts at Embark Adventures, a US-based company and leader in world travel who will guide us on this expedition as they have done for our two Mt. Kilimanjaro treks. Note that no special equipment, special training, or any technical climbing is required.

This team will be made up of multiple myeloma patients, caregivers, doctors, clinicians, nurses, and others connected to multiple myeloma. This is a powerful and life-changing experience as the team overcomes challenges, pushes beyond perceived limits, and honors loved ones and friends living with multiple myeloma. This MM4MM team is LIVING PROOF that the work being done by the MMRF, Takeda Oncology, and our research partners is helping myeloma patients live longer and more active lives.

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the MMRF is able to underwrite most of the travel and trekking costs of the trip. Team members agree to raise a minimum of $10,000 per person.

Team members will be selected based on their personal connection to multiple myeloma, enthusiasm for being part of the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma team, and their interest in and ability to maximize fundraising.
