Dear Friends,

We will be participating in the 2017 IRONMAN Lake Placid on July 23, 2017 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures. The work ahead of us? Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles and raise at least $10,000 for the MMRF.

This cause is close to our hearts, as Katie's mom (Kathy O'Dunne) is currently battling Multiple Myeloma. Katie's dad (Peter O'Dunne) has completed this race 13 times, and Katie has been traveling to watch him race IM Lake Placid every year since 8th grade. However, right before his 11th IM Lake Placid, Kathy was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. After a challenging year for our family, we pulled into Lake Placid to see MMRF signs everywhere! It was the first year Team for Cures paired with Lake Placid. Peter has been fundraising for the last 2 years, and now it's our turn to join. We will be fundraising and racing alongside Katie's dad - ALL in support of finding a cure for Kathy and others battling Multiple Myeloma.

We need to find a cure! Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made.

In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families. My mom's current treatments have come directly out of research from the MMRF!

The Goal: Raise $10,000 for the MMRF!

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row. I have made a commitment to raise at least $10,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to help find a cure for Multiple Myeloma and for Katie's mom! Thank you for your support!
