My name is Dan Meier. I will be participating in the 2017 IRONMAN Lake Placid on July 23, 2017 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.
I am currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI. It is my job to help minimize injury risk in student-athletes as well as help them recover from athletic injuries. As a healthcare professional, it is my passion to help people! By raising money for the MMRF I can help our medical field improve their efforts at finding a cure! Please help me raise money for the MMRF so that those battling this cancer can have hope of defeating this cancer! They are the real IRONMEN!
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." - Proverbs 27:17.
Any amount you can give helps strengthen and sharpen the focus of the research to help find a cure for this disease. Work with me to help sharpen those who have been given the gift of medical research, so that those in need of this research can continue to run their race in life!
"Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” - Hebrews 12:1
The work ahead of me? Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles and raise at least $5,000 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.
Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made.
In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.
The Goal: Raise $5,000 for the MMRF!
The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.
Please support my participation in the 2017 IRONMAN Lake Placid benefiting the MMRF. I have made a commitment to raise at least $5,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!
Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.
