In 2015, I was offered an internship at the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Two years later and I am so proud to say that I am still here at the MMRF, working with amazing teams of endurance athletes that everyday inspire me with their dedication to finding a cure for this disease. I am honored and humbled to work with these people, and now it's time for me to do my part.
I will be participating in the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma Grand Canyon Trek beginning on May 4, 2017 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.
The work ahead of me? Hike the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and raise at least $3,000 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.
Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made. The patients that climb with us are living proof of that!
In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have almost tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.
My Goal: Raise $3,000 for the MMRF!
The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world, and I could not be more proud to be a part of them. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming, which puts the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.
Now I am asking for your support as I prepare to hike into (and out of!) the Grand Canyon with a team of multiple myeloma patients, doctors, nurses, and loved ones. I have made a commitment to raise at least $3,000, and I need YOUR HELP to get me there. Every dollar puts us a step closer to a cure, and it could be your dollar that gets us there.
Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.
