Team BTHO MM Takes on Mt. Fuji!

Dear Friends and Family,

My how far we have come.

The fuzzy photo in the header features Deana and me the day before her stem cell transplant in November 2011. The inset photo is Deana and me during her Emory visit on February 13, 2017.

Every day, we are all so grateful that Deana is here and doing so well.

And...she is doing so well largely because of the advances in research that have been made through the efforts of many great scientists and those agencies that assist them by providing the funds for their research.

Deana and I are honored to have been selected for the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma program in July 2017. We will join a group climbing Mount Fuji to raise funds and awareness with the goal of advancing a cure.

Deana is the perfect person to take on this challenge -- she provides such inspiration to all. Not once in these six years have I heard her ask, "Why me?" She faces each challenge this disease has thrown at her and continues to come out on top. Now, we're going to show others that we can make it to the top of a real (BIG) mountain.

The work ahead of us? Climb 12,389 feet above sea level to the highest peak in Japan and raise at least $10,000 that will fund groundbreaking research. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by Deana and her fellow multiple myeloma patients.

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made -- Deana is living proof.

Thanks to the important work done by researchers, fundraisers and advocacy groups, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients after diagnosis. (PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT DEANA IS ON A CLINICAL TRIAL SO WE ARE PARTICULARLY THANKFUL FOR THE IMPORTANT WORK BEING DONE BY THESE OUTSTANDING RESEARCHERS.)

Please support OUR participation in the Mount Fuji Trek. Deana and I (AKA TEAM BTHOMM) have made a commitment to raise at least $10,000, and we need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Deana & Deborah
