Ryan Anthony

Dear Friends and Family,

In addition to the ongoing work with The Ryan Anthony Foundation/CancerBlows, I will be participating in the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma program in July 2017 by climbing Mount Fuji to raise funds and awareness for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.

This is a personal project for me with my own fight against MM. Each year I reach a new milestone against this disease. Because of the work by MMRF/MMRC this disease can be treated extending life. I have been on constant treatments for 4 years now and can see promise for our future; however, the current treatments are still hard on the body. The work ahead of me? Climb 12,389 feet above sea level to the highest peak in Japan and raise at least $5,000 for the MMRF.

I have never participated in anything like this and know that by getting ready for it and better physical condition will only help this fight. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges other patients with multiple myeloma and myself must accept.

Of note: I will not be alone on this trek. Accompanied by other patients, care givers and doctors we will climb together as a team - sharing strength, will and hope. Most notably I will be alongside my friend Dr. Brian Berryman who is joining me on this trek. Dr. Berryman lost his mother to MM and now gives life to patients battling blood cancers. My 'trek' with him continues and will now include this physical mountain as well as the personal mountains I face.

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made.

In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients after diagnosis. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.

The Goal: Raise $5,000 for the MMRF's life-extending cancer research!

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.

Please support my participation in the Mount Fuji Trek benefiting the MMRF. I have made a commitment to raise at least $5,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.
