Dear Friends and Family,

I will be participating in the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma program in July 2017 by climbing Mount Fuji to raise funds and awareness for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Team For Cures.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in March 2013. I was blessed enough to know someone with this very rare cancer. Knowing someone who was living with this cancer was reassuring and he and his family were a wealth of information and support. Unfortunately, my friend George passed away after a 9 year battle with Myeloma. I am also blessed to have minimum residual disease and am not currently enduring treatment. While chemo and an autogolous stem cell transplant were hell, I am doing well and fortunate to be healthy enough to hike Mt. Fuji and raise money to fund research for a cure.

The work ahead of me? Climb 12,389 feet above sea level to the highest peak in Japan and raise at least $5,000 for the MMRF. Training for this event is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients with multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and, sadly, has one of the lowest five-year relative survival rates of all cancers. But while there is no cure, great progress is being made.

In fact, thanks to the important work of the MMRF, the world's leading private funder of myeloma research, the FDA has approved TEN new treatments, including FOUR in just the past 18 months – a track record that's unparalleled in the world of oncology. These drugs have tripled the lifespan of myeloma patients after diagnosis. And now the MMRF is funding over 20 additional treatments in various stages of development, giving hope to tens of thousands of patients and their families.

The Goal: Raise $12,389 for the MMRF's life-extending cancer research!

The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards research and related programming. And the MMRF is in the top 1% of all charities, having earned Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the past eleven years in a row.

Please support my participation in the Mount Fuji Trek benefiting the MMRF. I have made a commitment to raise at least $5,000, and I need your help to get there. Please contribute whatever you can. It all adds up!

Please take this opportunity to give back and support this game-changing cancer organization.

Best of luck to you and Dr. Berryman. Thank you both for all that you are doing for the Dallas, Texas and world-wide Myeloma Community. I am making this donation as a fellow member of the North Texas Myeloma Support Group (NTMSG) that meets in Dallas monthly. We are glad you are a member of the NTMSG, and we encourage you to be a more active member by attending more meetings as health and time permit. You can make a difference that way also by sharing your hope, knowledge and experiences with your fellow North Texas area Myeloma patients and caregivers. Thanks again for your efforts to raise Myeloma research funds! God speed!
